1代替this,that.如 -- What’s this/that?– It’s a map.
2代替上文提到的单数事物.如 My pen is lost,and I can’t find it.
注：区别it和one：it是代替特指的事物,one是代替泛指的事物.如 My pen is lost.Have you seen it?(特指) / My pen is lost.Do you have one?(泛指)
3代替未知的人.如 Is it a man or a woman?
4代替小孩,尤指婴儿.如 She had a baby yesterday.It has only two kilogrammes.
5代替距离、天气、时间、日期或季节.如 It’s a long way from here to my school./

如果具体不知道那个人的性别可以用it来代替。

在这里有时候it 表示不明身份的人的时候可以用尤其指baby性别的时候（在不知道性别前提下不能说she或者he 只能用it）
this 和that 也可以有这种用法的

如果是婴儿，用is it a boy or a girl是问是男孩还是女孩，因为不能确定性别
